A Texarkana man was involved in a head on crash on Highway 7 near Hot Springs, Arkansas that left four occupants of the second vehicle dead.

It is in the report that 33-year-old Benjamin Ward Ledwell of Texarkana crossed the double yellow line on Highway 7 at Tower Road driving his 2011 model Ford Pick-up into the southbound lane where it struck a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander driven by 63-year-old Allen Ray Rhein of Bismark, Arkansas head-on. All three passengers in Rhein's vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene and Rhein was pronounced dead at St. Vincent Hospital a short time after the accident. 1. It has been 3 years now since Ben Ledwell killed my Aunt, Uncle, and 2 cousins. They burned to death in their vehicle. He was speeding. On a curvy, mountainous road. Sunny, clear day. Not enough blood was taken to conclusively determine his level of drug induced impairment. But he was under the influence. Therefore the empty narcotic pill bottles found in his car, along with numerous weapons, and the speed factor, warranted ZERO jail time. He continues to enjoy his freedom. Old family money has me wondering how this man who has also had his FAA license pulled for flying under the influence of cocaine, in addition to prior illegal activities, all of which I found by simply researching on the public internet, has allowed him his continued, daily liberties freedom, and the ability to never be held accountable for his actions, via jail time served. It has been sad and disturbing to watch him get away scot free. My husband, 3 boys and I spent a wonderful week visiting with them prior to Ben Ledwell killing them. And he did, and it did not have to happen. Accident? Had he not been speeding, on drugs, narcotic drugs, both illegal, maybe, just maybe my extended family would have life today. My 97 grandfather waited anxiously for them to return home to their farm. Cindy, my Aunt took beautiful care of him. She left behind 3 other children and 3 grandchildren. All whom she was very close to. It was shocking to get the phone call at midnight. Four lives abruptly ended. A family, an extended family, a close knit community, forever saddened by this senseless loss. And yet. Ben Ledwell continues to live, laugh, post internet videos depicting his joy in the freedoms of life. No jail time. Just a snippet of the trial, the jury was told, they, the residents would be footing his jail time bill. This by the prosecutor. Wow. The injustice of it all. And he went to back to court to have his final conviction overturned, expunged from public record. May his family sincerely never know this grief and the unjustness that has occurred. For as we know, Justice does not always prevail. The profound grief is still very real for my family and friends of the Rhein family in Arkansas.
